Just start. Start before you’re ready.
The amount of times I’ve been given this advice and counsel - only to end up with more “never do that again” inventory in my career path is frightening.
I believe for some people telling them to start before being ready is a good way to get them to take any action at all.
However, Measure twice and cut once is also an axiom of conventional wisdom - I believe for others who are truly capable of much, starting before they’re ready or starting before you know what you want is a big push into wasted effort.
There are people who are capable of intllectualizing and distilling a concentrated chunk of progress if allowed to get clarity on what they’re going to hit.
A mentor or supporters efforts should encourage clarity instead of action. Action bias doesn’t always bring productivity.
It’s simply not true - it can easily turn to busy work.
So, if you feel pressure from people you admire or your supporters to stay busy - here’s a counter opinion….STOP. Get clear. For as long as it takes and as long as is needed…but not a single moment more once you know.
